Power Supply Question
HI,
I have an Emachine T6522 and the fan on the power supply has started making a horrendous noise like a high whine noise. I have only had this computer about 4 months or so and I think the fan is going bad already.
That said I was looking a newegg.com for a new fan and had a few questions.
I believe that what I have now is only like 330 watts.
-If I upgrade to 450 watts is this ok? I won't burn anything up by adding more watts will I?
-The power supply I have has 1 fan. If looking at the back of the computer the fan is on the left and plug in is on the right. Do I have to buy the some configuration or can the fan be on the right?
-Can I just pick any fan or do I need to know more about the connections or anything? I found 1 or 2 that are 450 watts and look similar to what I have and they are priced at around $40.00.
-Being a fairly noob to replacing items...Is it easy to replace the power supply myself or should I take it in somewhere and have them do it for me?
Well thats my little problem. Any help, comments, or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you all.

4 months it should be under warranty
check there first.
replacing it is 4 screws and just make sure to note where each connector goes.
take a picture or sketch for example
put a piece of labled masking tape on each wire but the fittings are one way of different sizes so mixing the up is almost impossible.
450 watt or higher is fine as it only gives the pc what it asks for.
trouble happens when the power supply is not able to supply enough .
emachines may or may not use a custom wiring system so check to be sure as a standard power supply will not work if that is the case
edit
a good name brand is always good.
newegg.com has good prices and is dependable
you can look over their selection for ideas or a good local shop if you have one

Cool thanks for the advice. I will have to go by Circuit City and see if its under warranty. Problem is I heard the won't fix Emachines but instead just give you a new one. I don't like the thought of having to take everything off this computer and put it on a new one
In retrospect I should have saved more money and bought a better brand. This computer has not given me any troubles besides the fan but it makes me nervous that more things could go wrong in the future.
Taping the connections is a great idea. I thought about even taking a picture so i get everything back the way it was.
It may be under warranty, but with future plans on getting a new card I know I will need more power for it anyways so I guess I'll just buy a new pwer supply now.
Thanks

NOTE
when i said custom wiring i meant the wires in the fittings may go to different pins but the plug is the same size and shape.
ask to be sure you are replacing a standard power supply with another standard power supply.

Well, first if your gettin a new vid card, you also need to establish if it is going to be AGP or PCI-E. If it is AGP I reccomend this powersupply.

This is a very nice powersupply. Cooler master has done a good job with this PSU, also to my knowledge most e-machines dont incorporate a see through window so you wont miss the blue 120 mm fan.
I personally strongly advise against buying a thermaltake PSU, as the low 18a on the 12v rail is not good.
If you want an explanation on how PSUs work just tell me, also no it wont blow up your computer if you get more watts then you need.
Other companies i strongly advise against include- Logisys(Comments of blowing up powersupplies) Aspire(Huge rail fluctuations, They had a 680w psu, that couldn't even handle a 7800gt) Powmax(Boom) Raidmax(Boom). Post up if you get any psu that catches ur eye.

Antec, Sparkle, Enermax, OCZ, and PC Power & Cooling all make very solid power supplies, but they will be more expensive than off-brands. I've also had good luck with Thermaltake on the cheap-end.
Also, make sure that your model of PC doesn't require a proprietary power supply. Many OEMs (and especially HP) like to use proprietary units that have special form factors, plugs, or wiring configurations.

Antec usually has great powersupplies, just watch out for the occasional dead ones.
